I’m an enabler and yoga teacher from Helsinki. In my work, yoga and life in general, I’m interested of freedom, authenticity and exploration. I have read a lot of business books, from lean to Kotter, but nowadays my interest lies in autobiographies and different philosophical books. I could say, that the driving question, throughout my life, has been ”why?”
Serving the Business World
I have done my career in Business in Nordea, which is the biggest bank in the Nordics and one of the Global Systemically Important Banks, defined by The Basel Committee on Banking Supervision. During the past 13 years, I have been lucky to be part of enabling our customers’ dreams, to support various leaders in developing their business units, and, what has been most fruitful, enabling individual employee development alongside the business development.
My Yoga Path
I have practiced Vanda Scaravelli inspired yoga with my teacher Meri Mort from 2010. During 2018, I completed my Teacher Training (250h) in the Yoga School Shanti, in Helsinki. During the teacher training, I also got to know Kylli Kukk and her unique way of teaching yoga.
I have been active in various sports during my entire life. As my body started to get stiff from running, fitness boxing and body weight training, I was lucky to find the yoga mat. During the years, yoga has becomed more of a life style for me and I tend to bring the niamas and yamas to my everyday life in all situations. In 2014, I started to have constant pain in my lower back as well as right leg. I was diagnosed with a minor prolapse and yoga was my rehabilitation method – both mental and physical.
My approach to yoga is calm, exploratory and grateful – life and movement are gifts and, as Vanda says, ”we should not kill the instinct of the body for the glory of the pose.” I like to work with gravity, let the breathing lead the movement and identify the spine as the source of all movement. I bring thoughts from classical yoga texts and different philosophies to my classes’ introductions, that guide or accompany that exercise – I may sometimes recite a poem, if it fits the theme.
Feedback from my colleagues, partners and yoga students:
”Henri was a very good teacher. He could instruct the poses in a calm and clear way. He Hän osasi hyvin rauhallisesti ja selkeästi selittää liikkeet. He was aware of the state of alertness of the participants.” – Yoga course participant
”Henri was comfortably calm and had a nice way of guiding the landscape of the mind. In addition, the class introductions were nice.” – Yoga course participant
